HALSTEAD Multiple Iola athletes traveled to western Kansas over the weekend to compete in the Class 3A Powerlifting State Championship in Halstead.
The Mustangs and Fillies had multiple podium finishes including two overall state champions and two state runners-up.
Seniors Nic Zimmerman and Mia Aronson earned the top spots in their class.
Zimmerman had the top mark in the bench and the squat to earn the overall state championship while Aronson finished third in bench and second in clean.
Senior Matt Karr finished right behind, placing third in the bench press and second in the squat while junior Ella Taylor took second overall in her class after earning a state championship in the benchand finishing third in both the clean and squat.
Kamri Hall placed third overall in her class with a second-place finish in the squat and a third-place finish in the clean while Zane Whitney finished fourth overall with a third-place finish in the squat.
Aiden Jones took fifth overall and Sharyia Trester finished seventh.
These young people put in an incredible amount of work and sweat, coach Daniel Vaughn said. All of that hard work paid off and Im honored and proud to be their coach.
